PMIP3 Workshop on Comparing Ocean Models with Paleo-Archives 2012// COMPARE 2012
The Paleoclimate Modeling Intercomparison Project, Phase 3, plans to hold a workshop on Comparing Ocean Models with Paleo-Archives 2012 (COMPARE 2012) from 18 to 21 March 2012 in Bremen, Germany.
The workshop will be a great opportunity to bring together paleoceanographers and climate modelers. The key purpose will be to carry out the first comparison of marine paleo-proxy data with PMIP3 ocean component results and plan manuscripts to present the outcome.
The emphasis will be on the MARGO (Multi-proxy Approach for the Reconstruction of the Glacial Ocean Surface) sea-surface temperature reconstruction for the LGM (Last Glacial Maximum, ~23,000-19,000 a before present) cold period. However, the workshop will go beyond MARGO and the LGM and include the presentation and assessment of other datasets (for example, with proxies for deep ocean circulation) and time periods (for example, the mid-Holocene, ~6,000 a before present, or the last deglaciation).
We welcome contributions that present new model results, new relevant datasets or outline new ways of data-model comparison (including new measures of model skill and model error in simulating paleoclimate conditions as well as means to quantify uncertainty in paleoceanographic reconstructions).
The MARGO data and the memorandum “The MARGO synthesis of sea-surface temperature reconstructions for the Last Glacial Maximum as a benchmark for PMIP3 data-model comparison” may be found on the GOA website. |
